Aluminium alloy 3003 is a widely used wrought alloy of moderate strength, notable for its excellent corrosion resistance and good formability. It is primarily hardened by cold working and is non-heat treatable.
Key Properties of 3003 Aluminium Alloy:
- Chemical composition: The main alloying element is manganese, with a content of approximately 1.0–1.5%.
- Strength and modulus of elasticity: The modulus of elasticity is ~69–70 GPa. Its strength is roughly 20% higher than pure aluminium (1xxx series alloys) but lower than, for example, 6061 alloy.
- Corrosion resistance: 3003 aluminium features excellent resistance to atmospheric corrosion and most chemical environments, making it ideal for outdoor use or humid conditions.
- Formability and weldability: It is one of the most ductile aluminium alloys, easily withstanding bending, stamping, drawing, forming, and rolling without cracking. It offers unlimited weldability.
- Thermal conductivity: It has high thermal conductivity (approximately 193 W/m·K), allowing for rapid heat dissipation.
